A standing invitation
This page exists so you do not have to work out whether it is all right to get in touch. It is.
I like being asked things. Most of what I know came from someone answering a question they did not have to answer, and the only way I know to pay that back is to be easy to ask.
What I am open to
- Consulting Backend and infrastructure, usually a few weeks, usually a system that has outgrown its original shape
- Teaching Troubleshooting as a skill, for teams who can fix things but cannot explain how they knew where to look
- Talks Conferences, meetups, internal brown-bags. I will travel for the good ones and dial in for the rest
- Just talking shop No agenda, no invoice. This is the one people use least and I wish they would use most
A few honest notes
I reply to everything, though sometimes slowly. I am not looking for a full-time role. If you are early and have no budget, say so and ask anyway — the answer is often yes for something small.
The fastest way to get a useful reply is to tell me what is actually broken rather than what you think you need. The contact form is set up for exactly that.
